Bunting at lunch

Another Indigo Bunting from my bunting hangout, this guy got to the fencepost just as a large bug landed, free lunch.

Mike, beautiful bird. The BG is lovely, as is the bird. The purists may say that he is angled away, but it doesn't bother me. Any bird with a natural dinner in it's beak is a big bonus for me. I am not generally a fan of the bigger perches, but this works for me.

I would also ask you model to rearrange his secondary flights.:S3:

You have a beautiful bird. Wonderful action. At what time was this shot? The light on top is beautiful, but it seems that the bird could use a bit on the side of its head. I wonder about the crop at the bottom. The fence post is pretty big in the frame, and I know Diane tends to be okay with that. Also if you were to crop in from the bottom, the aspect ratio might suffer. It's a beautiful photograph, beyond my capabilities in several important areas. Congratulations on your capture.

Loveee this shot, especially the color, they go together really well. At first I was bothered by the big perch but the more I look at it, the more I like it. Maybe because of the sense of scale: perch - bird - dinner. For me that sense of scale works well with the choice of crop.

That perch is waaaaay to big. The easy fix is to crop at least 80-90% off
from the bottom. Then to make up for that, you might have to add some
canvas to the top to balance the image. The background is perfect, so
it should be easy to do.

The head angle isn't ideal. If you fired off a couple of shots, maybe you
have one slightly better? When I come across a bird eating an insect,
I'll keep firing until he's done. Usually if you see it and then hit the trigger,
you'll be late.

The exposure looks fine, but could use a little dodging on the rim of
the back where it looks a little over exposed.

A good lesson for me to learn. There are other times that's a good idea as well. Doug, what are some of those? Thanks for the comment.

Great bird, sharp and detailed, wonderful BG! I do think the perch is a bit dominant. I might crop about 1/3 of it off. You want it to be obvious what it is, though. I hate being a slave to an aspect ratio, but sometimes it's necessary.

Mike what a stunning bird that I am utterly unfamiliar with,sure I''d like him turned more towards us especially the head,but I adore how the blue sits against your BG. Mike much has been written about the size of perch for me it being so obviously a fence post is possibly more off putting than the actual size.Mike I have to declare on most occassions I am not a huge fan of manmade elements in my own( old drystone walls are an exception) pics,so feel a need to declare that factor.

Mike you mentioned "bunting hangout" might it be feasable to give them some prettier perches??
