Not sure this really qualifies for the theme.

Wish I hadn't cut off the bolts.

There are so many other enticing shapes it doesn't matter to me that some bolts are partly cropped off. I love this. The shapes are appealing and the colors are effective, but the best part to me is the sense of character and history it shows. Especially because of all the shapes, the square format is great for this.
I love this too. The colors, textures and shapes are all so interesting I don't want to take my eyes off of it!
Wow. Thanks so much, Wendy.
A good eye for shapes, textures. well done.
Anita,
Greetings. A great combination of graphic shapes and weathered textures. The color and lighting is particularly good at adding depth. Good show!
Cheers,
-Michael-
Thank you, Hazel and Michael.
Anita, this is a wonderful combination of shapes, complimentary colors and textures. Very nicely seen and rendered:S3:
Anita, well done getting multiple geometric shapes into the image. Were you consciously attempting this while composing the image? I love the grungy textures and colors.
Thank you, Gary.
In response to your excellent question, the answer is yes and no. Yes, in that what attracted me to this part of the equipment were the shapes. No, in that I didn't think, "there is a triangle, there is a rectangle, and there are some circles." It was more: "Interesting combination of shapes. Can I find a pleasing composition here?"
I would love to know how others approach making images. How much are you thinking through the composition? How much are you relying on your sense of what is pleasing? Other?
Most of the time it is sensing, not geometric planning. Like Anita, I don't think triangle, square, etc. When it works, it works. (and many times, when it doesn't work, it doesn't and hopefully I'll have enough sense not to let you guys see it:S3:
This is wonderful! I love this sort of old equipment. And you found great soft light.
I usually let my subconscious do all the intellectualizing for compositions. If I'm on a tripod I'll use live view if I want to think about it rationally. And a zoom lens really helps.
super cool image very nice
