Nice t o have colorful birds coming to your garden, John. Nice wintery feel to the scenery. The light on beak and face draws you attention to the head. I wish we could see little more details in the feathers.

Yes I agree, I was going to try a bit of usm but thought I,d se what folks thought. They are quite tight plumaged birds which doesn,t help a lot !
I,ll try a bit more sharpening but there isn,t a lot to play with.

Hi John, What a great bird! Never seen one of those :) Too bad it did not pose on a more isolated perch for you, but great to see this bird none the less. I notice what seems to be chromatic aberration along the edge of the dark plumage on the back. This may be from having shot through a window, and perhaps can be tweaked in lens corrections. You may consider noise reduction for the background as well.

Tried to take on board suggestions but not much luck. The original quality is just not there. The ss with that lens not ideal plus the camaera capabilities. Maybe it will sit in the same bush again !!

Lovely bird to get in your garden. I think it is a nice winter habitat shot. Good exposure and nice eye. Fingers crossed he returns for you.
What a great looking bird. The setting is busy (I know you like it like that); and in this case the bird stands out well enough despite the perch and bg. I don't know the bird (maybe someday); but I'm guessing it is one of those that has silky fine plumage, sort of like our waxwings, which makes it very difficult to get much detail. In that regard, the OP works better for me, the RP seems a little noisy.
Neat looking bird, John. Like the wintery feel, and the spotlight on his face. I prefer the IQ in the original post. Excellent post on removing the other bird from the BG.
