This is a shot from 2012 that I have resurrected, I thought it looked a little different to most kingfishers on a stick, the lighting was quite tricky at the time.
All C&C welcome.

Jon the bird looks a tad soft but I do like what you where trying to do with this shot considering the lighting that you describe, if you don't try you don't get!, nice different shot.
Keith.

Hi Jon, I like the light in this one, but have to agree with Keith, it is soft, however I appreciate it's from 2012. Would clone that highlight bottom RHC.

Hi Jon,
The flash brings out the colours very nicely, especially the bright blue on the back. I'm not sure the movement on the wings really works for me, but it is a pleasing image none-the-less.
Would I be right thinking that this is quite a young bird?
Best wishes, Gerald

Here is a rework, the focal point is almost touching the eye, I have used a slightly different sharpening regime here. Better or am I flogging a dead horse?
Here I used USM in DPP at 4, 2, 5 as opposed to Sharpen 3 I also used DLO.

Jon think it would be hard to get perfection, but I like what you are trying to do, it's great that we all have views and opinions I like the blurred wings.
Keith.

Hi Jon, I think it is better, but is the RAW 'critically' sharp, as at this size you can make anything look good, but it's the RAW that counts as you know.
No idea about DPP settings, all 'Greek' to me, I would ask Arash or Andreas.
Sorry can help much on this one. :S3:

Thanks everyone, yes the eye is sharp, the feathers are blurred in certain areas.
