Welcome to BPN, William! Very nice first post. I like the angle, soft light, reflection and included habitat. It needs a bit CCW rotation and I would put the bird further to the right in the frame so it has more room to 'swim in'. You could also selectively sharpen the head a tad more. Keep them coming!
This image has lots of potential, and Axel's remarks are bang on to take it a notch higher!
Welcome aboard William, looking forward to more :-)
ditto all the above and what sweet light you have here.
One way to make the image level is to get the bill tips perfectly vertical
(see educational resources forum for several options to do this)
welcome and looking forward to more birds/wildlife from your area
Welcome to BPN William! Lovely green water! The suggestions above are for post-processing. As far as in-camera suggestions go, I almost never shoot ISO 200 with the 40D. Using ISO 400-800 will allow for more DOF and a faster shutter speed. My feeling is that I can easily remove noise, but OOF is OOF. Thanks for posting!
Thanks for the critique, guys. I am learning a lot here.
Big welcome Williment ! Lovely first post and I love the beautiful reflection you captured in this image. Excellent suggestions from above. Will look forward to your future posts and thanks for sharing.
