Dotterel Portrait

I was looking through my old files (as one does at this time of the year:S3:) and found this, and worked on it today. This Dotterel was captured in July, last year. Near the top of Cairngorm, one of Scotland's highest mountains. A long trek up, but well worth it :S3:

Nice portrait, just the right amount of head turn and eye contact, Will. Background is really nice with the exception of the dark spot just below the beak.

Wonderful except as noted by Karl above... All things being equal (and possible) lower might have done the trick. a

Would love to try and photograph these birds Will, agree about the bit on the bg but that apart I think it looks great, love that black puddle of an eye.

Hi Will, nice to occasionally go back and review old files with a fresh pair of eyes, sometimes you can find some real gems :S3:.

I like it as presented, but wondered if a portrait format may have also worked? There's always next time.
Great to see how you have grown through the year, well done, here's hoping for bigger and better things next year. :cheers:

Good to hear Will, although the images are already showing that. Just keep pushing that ISO on the 5D and don't let captures evade you through SS :S3:.
