A few weeks back I managed a few images in poor light, I have been back a few times but still have not had any luck, weather looks very poor for the forthcoming week too so I reckon it will be a while before I stand a chance of getting decent conditions.

Keep up the good work Jon I'm sure it will work out for you, in the mean time I would be very pleased with this, think you have done very well.
Never tried auto ISO I will now.

Hi Jon, this incoming angle has certainly given us a great view of the face - love that stare from those eyes. We also have a good view of the far wing, well exposed, and overall, the Owl is separated from your grassy BG nicely. Well captured.

Great stare from the eyes Jon, I like the pose you've caught. Have you used much NR, seems a little un-natural in the BG, but you have lovely details on the face. Frightening what can be achieved at such high ISOs these days with good technique.

I would be thrilled to have this image in my files.
I quite like the BG and love the way the owl pops against it.
Eyes really draw you in.
Only improvement to be made was out of your control- ie. better near wing position in that the tail didn't merge with the wing,
Gail

Thanks for the feedback everyone, I did use some NR, I used Topaz denoise on the medium setting - maybe a lighter setting would have been adequate.

Great capture Jonathan under difficult conditions. I like this a lot and look forward too seeing more in better light.
