This is the same displaying drake hooded merganser as my post yesterday. This is certainly not the pose we normally see in this forum, but I like the striking patterns of the head and tertial feathers (I expect that female mergansers do also :) ). 40D, 500 f/4 + 1.4x, 1/640, f/6.3, ISO 400. This is a really nice "out of the box" view of the species. You may depend this aspect is never shown in field guides! I love the colour of the BG and the reflection of the bird in the water. Unique!

Neat shot Steve. I like the golden color of the BG and those racing stripe feathers on the back. Interesting view of the head and the tiny bit of eye visible on the right makes this one work.
