Here is a beautiful pure white snowy owl from my trip to Barrow, Alaska this past June. I saw a couple owls on horrible perches, not worth photographing. When poking around with two of my friends, we found this beauty sitting on a tundra mound. I see them frequently here on Long Island in the winter, but to see one on his breeding grounds was truly a thrill.
gorgeous image, Grace.
Love the wonderful settings with beautiful flowers in the foreground.
Very artistic frame with lovely 3D effect caused by horizontal banding pattern behind the nicely sitting sweet owl on mound.
As usual elegant composition.

Satish.

Grace:
The flowers and greenery help tell the story that this isn't the usual southern migration shots we see so often ( which are pretty cool as well), but rather the breeding habitat, way up north. I could see a variation cropped with a bit more off the top, but perhaps the long expanse at top is another part of the story, to better illustrate that area.
Nicely done!
Cheers

This image just rocks, Grace. I love your choice in composition. As usual, you really think through your composition and the placement of your subject. I love your small in the frame choices!!! The fact that this is a male sends it over the top for me!

Thank you for looking and to those of you who commented, I do appreciate it. Marina, my approach to composition is really simple. I try to figure out what the story is that I want to tell, and how I can make it the most powerful. In this image, that mound, with the flowers in front of it are really as important to me as is the owl, so I just left it in tact, and then tried to figure out how to convey the vastness of the tundra that he calls home, hence all the room on top. Sometimes things work better than others. :) Thanks again.
