I took this picture while on vacation on Hilton Head Island in South Carolina. He was resting along the edge of a pond/lagoon just behind my in-laws home. He's obviously used to seeing people on the nearby bike trail because he let me inch right up to him (within 20 feet) for several photo sessions. All times he just continued with his preening while checking on my progress every few minutes. It was real neat to see him so close. I wish the light was coming from the opposite side OR I could have shot from another angle but that would have meant walking into the water with the gators -- I decided against it! I got lots of good close ups, but this pose is my favorite. Love to hear everyone's thoughts...

I'm glad you didn't visit the gators. :) In a situation like this, fill flash might help. I like the hairdo, grumpy look and BG and would give it more space at the right and crop a bit off the left to get the bird out of the center. You could also try to remove the three bright spots in the BG. Keep them coming!
