From a couple of weeks ago when there were still a bit of leaves in the trees to reflect in the water, because as you can see the male Wood Duck needs all the help it can to make images colourful:t3.
Canon 7D + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/200s., f/5.6, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, about 85% FF, the flanks darkened, and the white "chinstrap" also toned down to reveal more detail. Duck attracted closer with cracked corn.

Simply gorgeous Daniel :) I think you nailed this one and good.
What I like most about it is how we see detail in the iridescent crown, the incredible detail in the eye, and water that looks like white wine ;)
Thanks,
Ross

This is like the perfect woody portrait. Colors are just awesome b/c you had that muted light and a killer BG.

Hi Dan, you have nailed the exposure on this multi coloured fellow, not to mention the sharpness. I feel the colourful water is just so much an extra bonus.
