We spent hours with this pride in Mabuasehube, Botswana. The image was captured February 2010.
The pride consisted of a few adults with about 4 sub-adults (if I remember correctly) and the family was affected with mange.
A condition not often seen in the Kalahari. Is was sunny/overcast on a hot February day. We picked them up at about 9 in the morning, not far from our campsite.
We sat with them in close proximity as they were lazing/sleeping in the shade; they were not a happy bunch- no playing amongst the cubs, the general mood felt was depressing-this is what I tried to capture and convey here.

Almost FF, just cropped a sliver for comp.
Now my reason for posting this...Is it worthwhile to revisit images captured with older gear, to process them with newer software and more empirical knowledge gained on processing since then?
The electricity just failed again now, we are on secondary batteries, do not have much time, will post quickly....:bugeyed:

Hi Andre -- This is a lovely portrait , the intent gaze and details makes this image for me . You processed it so nicely and I think if you post the same image if you had processed it back then in 2010 , it would have been great to see for us how different softwares and new knowledge helps in creating better pictures .
TFS !

Andre think you really have caught the mood, the detail and texture of the fur looks spot on.
Andre it's interesting to read what you say about processing, I personally will try to work on things that in the past I would have binned.
Keith.

Hi Andre - It was definitely worth revisiting this one. Lovely eye contact, low pov, tones and details. It all works here.

A very pleasing portrait Andre.
At this size the IQ looks great - really worth revisiting older photos IMHO even before seeing your post.
Interesting to note about the mange - I've seen jackals often exhibit mange in the Kalahari, but not lions.

Hi Andre very well done having the old tools in mind .
Really like the low POV and the moody look of the Lion . Color and tones do look fine .
That hanging underlip does look a bit funny though .
You did well with browsing and revisiting older files ..... keep them coming .
Thanks for sharing Buthi

Hi Andre, goes to show how good things were, I wonder how many people these days could deal with a conventional camera?
