I did everything right to get a shot of this species that I had not had in my file before, in the first golden light.
Got up at 4:00 AM, drove 98 km in the dark, got there at the crack of Dawn, to find the flock on the wrong side (West) of the pond.
It was after 9:00 AM when finally they came over to the East side.
Well, this is part of Bird photography and I accept it.
Thanks for looking.

Don't you hate it when that happens. Think of all that lost sleep. But you still got a fine image, with good detail, a nice pose, and interesting foreground. The light doesn't look bad to me. His diagnostic orange lower mandible shows up nicely.

Hi Karl, you are doing yourself an injustice, as Im finding this just perfecto. You have handled the light very well, and I like the feeding behaviour. Good detail on the feathers, and if anything, I would come up from the bottom a little.

Been 'there' lots of times Karl. But, isnt it a good feeling, thinking of what 'may' happen :S3: Beautiful detail and contrast on the bird. I love the feeding pose.

Not as you had envisioned, perhaps, but still very nice.

Looks good considering the challenges you had that morning. I like the feeding behaviour, and the sprinkling of duckweed on the surface. To me the eye needs bit more blacks to them, or at least the pupil does. Fixed the title for you:w3
