I shot this photo at Presqu’ile Provincial Park, Ontario, Canada, on a mostly cloudy morning.
Laying flat out in the sand, my lens was supported by a small sandbag. Camera was Canon EOS 7D mkII and EF100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM lens. Settings were f/5.6, 1/1000s, ISO 1000, 400mm. Shot RAW and processed in Lightroom.
Cropped to about 80% frame width for composition. Cloned out some dark areas in the sand. Brought up the highlights in the eye. Brought out the subtle blue of the water at the top of the frame. Applied noise reduction to the foreground and background.
I very much welcome and appreciate your critiques - Thanks for having a look!

very nice Ross, I like the low angle and the crossed legs. sharp with good exposure. moving a tad higher would have given us a better view of the feet

Hi Ross, I like the low perspective here, and the overcast light has helped nicely with the whites. Good angled pose, and the sand covered bill shows us that he was probably feeding earlier. Love the hint of blue in the upper BG.

I agree with Stu, re: background. Looks nice as is.
Love the low POV and the details. Soft light is always good for white birds.
Or for white in general.

This is lovely Ross.
Great soft, diffuse lighting which is perfect for these white birds.
I have always love pictures with the legs crossed- reminds me of a model's strut!
Love the hint of blue at the top and good call to enhance it a bit in PP.
Iq is excellent.
