Hi Peter -- This is a wonderful Portrait ! nice quality inspite of that low ss . The compo is also very good and u have got very nice details in the eye and texture on the face . TFS !
A very nice portrait, good composition and the DOF highlighting those eyes is awesome. TFS.
Lovely contrast and frame-filling portrait, Peter.
I would have liked to see a version with the mouth fully in focus, but can appreciate the battle between SS and aperture in these tough shooting conditions.
How high can you push the Fuji ito ISO?
Those eyes are deeply mesmerizing and very much challenge the viewer to really think about primates and humans... not important to have the nose/mouth in focus. Actually if the rest of the face was in focus I think it would appear more as a portrait and not be as powerful. Quite exceptional.
Hello Peter,
I wish I came in earlier with my comments, I see Nancy "stole" my thoughts, LOL. (I like your thinking, Nancy!)
So let me reformulate...I love the way the viewer's eyes are led towards the subject's eyes, as if "sliding" over the (soft) mouth of the Chimpanzee. Due to its size, the mouth is rather prominent, had it been in focus it would have prevented me as the viewer from concentrating on what is most important in the frame.
How I love this! And no, I am not trying to please you Peter, the more I look at this the more I love it, I like the darkness surrounding the subject, again it leads to those beautiful, intelligent eyes and that superb reflection, I still see those pursed lips but only after I look into his eyes, well... not sure it is a he or a she...
This is one image loaded with tons of emotion, superb processing and I thank you so much for sharing. As you know, I have been experimenting a bit more with B/W lately and I appreciate this from you, it moves my imagination.
Warmest regards,
This is a stunning portrait (any reason it's not got the 'theme' prefix?), and I like your conversion.
I can see where Morkel is coming from, but I too like the shallow DoF effect her with those beautiful eyes
Mike
Hi Peter , simply stunning as presented , well thought from my POV about this frame .
I like the conversion and the look into those eyes is awesome , from technical POV i might burn the lighter area on RHS sit does not add that much to the overall image .
Nice work Peter

Hi Mr D, seems we both have been travelling, love the depth, conversion and overall vision, the eyes just suck you in, very cool.
A very powerful and thought provoking image!

Hi Peter - I'm late, having been away but this is a very effective and thought provoking image for the reasons mentioned above. I might consider toning down the brighter spot on the right edge near the ear.
TFS,
Rachel
A very Deep image, Peter- well done!
