Went to one of my favorite locations a bid earlier than usual - this image was taken at 5:30AM - sunrise is at 5:47AM but this location does not receive direct sunlight for almost an hour after that. Could hardly see the heron in the viewfinder and had trouble getting focus - hope the HAP will forgive the bad head angle. Kind of lucky though that the eyes aren't visible - would have been a pretty bad case of red-eye (though fixable in PS). More guessed than really saw that the heron was fishing - the position of the fish in the beak was a total surprise when I opened the image on my computer. Cloned out a yellow line of reflection just below the bird's reflection.
Nikon D200, Nikkor 80-400 at 400mm, 1/250s, f5.6, ISO800 (not the optimal choice, but I had not set the camera yet), SB-600 with Better Beamer.

Excellent image Dieter !!! Love this early morning work !!! Do like it as presented and don't mind the head angle Lots more things helping !!! Glad you went for a reflection since its a good one !!!
Did not indicate the compensation but normally at this time is plus one and then some. Will give a totally different look. Btw with the new body Nikon we don't compensate as much. The camera reads the warm early morning light and opens up by itself. Big Congrats !!!

Hi Dieter!
The feel of this is awesome! I can feel the early morning darkness with the beautiful reflection with the light. I don't know how you got the fish, but that is over the top!

Very different - but I love the lighting effect and that you caught the action :)
