Taken the other day,the female Dotterel as better colors than male, this is because once they have mated, the female lays the eggs, then leaves the male, for another male, the male incubates rears until young have fledged, all on its own. They stop off here in the UK on high hills for a rest, before they move on to breed in Scotland.cannon 500mm IS,L,F4,5D MK111,tripod,iso400,F/5.6,13200S,small crop,sharpened,HL/SDW.Lighting was a bit harsh.

Chris:
The colors are excellent, bird is sharp, with nice sense of form from side lighting.
Good shooting angle.
The 'bokeh' of the background just in front of the bird is a bit distracting, tends to draw my eye. Could consider softening it a bit.
Thanks for the natural history details
Cheers
Randy

Very envious Chris !!
A grand shot indeed. The bokeh looks a bit like we used to get with the mirror lenses- thats going back a bit !!
Very nice picture allaround.

Hi Chris, excellent low shooting angle and with a good angled pose too. Good DOF on the bird, sharp with good feather detail, and agree, you could ' soften' the BG a touch. :w3

Beautiful bird, habitat, light, composition. I agree with Randy about that bit of BG. Using a wide open aperture may have helped. Lovely image all around.

A cracker for sure. I'm OK with the background. In fact I like it. I'd just tone down the bright contrasty grasses that the bird stands on, which is an easy job. When you have done that...stick it on the wall:)
