I am new to the forums but I am slowly trying to build my gear bag and in addition to bird photography, I am interested in recording audio. I know its an expensive side hobby and I am not trying to get into the $1000+ range (yet), but there are quality options to record excellent nature sounds, bird calls, etc.
I plan to get a mic with phantom XLR to reduce battery noise and pair it with a recorder and I was hoping to get some opinions on here if anyone currently does any audio work.
Currently, for recorders I'm leaning towards the Tascam DR-60D or DR-70D primarily for its mounting capabilities (I will be solo recording) and its reputation for having a good quality preamp. For microphones, I will start with a shotgun mic for bird calls and if I enjoy the audio production, I will get two cardioid mics for recording ambient stereo scenes like moving water or a noisy environment with calls in multiple directions.
