I am always excited to find a lone tree and this one was right in plain sight but I never noticed it! It sits in an empty lot that is unfenced and opens up into open space and national and state park lands. I happened to notice it when I was coming out of the convenience store across the street from it.
I was playing with the original image and wondering what I could do with it when I thought of the "fog" effect in Topaz Lens Effects. I used that filter and applied lots of fog. I thought it gave the image an Asian art look. What do you think? Too minimalist?

Kerry,
Greetings. A bit too foggy for my taste. I'd like to see a more consistent tone out the ends of the branches with a little more contrast. Perhaps, a slightly tighter crop with a bit more off the right and top would work for me as well. Interesting idea... worth working on. Thanks for posting.
Cheers,
-Michael-

I love it Kerry! It's so hard to find a lone tre, I keep looking all the time too. Just enough of a hint of horizon. Well done!

Love the shape of the tree, low and leaning in. I'm glad there is just enough contrast to discern a ground to anchor the tree. I like the lonely, foggy look.

Lovely! Would be interesting to compare the "Michael version." If you had asked me how far this was from the nearest convenience store.... Isn't the view through the camera amazing?!

Not too minimalist. I like it. Tree is nicely placed. I might also like it with a bit more contrast.

Not too minimalist for my taste. I would like to see a bit more detail.

I like the tree, itself, the heavy fog effect (with this amount of contrast), and the solitude of the tree. The fog seems to be variable, and I like that except right near the tree.

Foggy for sure, Kerry! This does have the Asian feel to it. As an Asian piece, more BLACK would really push it to the Far East, and of course, a nice Chinese red chop, IMO, :w3
