Just amazing!
I read it here:

(also really enjoyed the BBC video of the Stoat hunting a rabbit 10 times its size)
Wow! That's pretty amazing. TFS
This may be amazing, but it's also disgusting. The weasel was not having a "joy ride" on the back of the woodpecker but was doing its best to destroy and devour a beautiful bird. And yet other commenters above could apparently only describe the image as "amazing".
Some of us actually enjoy the beauty of nature, without one animal trying to destroy another. Sorry, but I'm not impressed by this. What I do find truly amazing is that none of the above commenters had any problem with this situation.
True it is, all animals have to obtain food to live. But this IMHO is not the best way to convey that simple fact. Destruction, or attempted destruction, of one animal by another should not in my view become a source of entertainment.
I took the comments to mean that the photographic capture of a rarely-seen event was amazing. Nature is beautiful but also cruel and there's only a tiny bit we can do about it. But understanding it, including the ugly, is important.
I think everyone was glad the bird escaped, hopefully without a lot of damage. But the weasel had to work to catch a different meal and maybe it had hungry babies to feed.
Norm, I think you misunderstand the comments. As Diane said, the amazing part of these photos is being able to see and record a very rare event. Animals attacking and eating one another is a part of nature. I'm happy the woodpecker got away, but I think one can still be awed by the tenacity of the weasel taking on a bird large enough to carry it in flight.
No question, the photo is amazing. Yet it's gruesome at the same time. I'm just pleased that it ended well. :w3
Now that's a once-in-a-lifetime event to witness, with or without a camera!
