Caught this Mule Deer fawn during an overcast, late August evening. It's almost lost all of its reddish, spotted summer coat and replaced it with the darker gray one of winter. It seemed to be quite curious and took a few steps toward me before it left to follow a slightly bigger fawn and doe. 5DMK2, 400DO, f6.3, 1/200, ISO 1600, HH from car, cropped to 8 mp, processed in DPP and PSE 10.

Nice portrait with good clean surroundings and BG. The ears cocked forward and eye contact work well. Nice one Steve!

Steve, this fawn is so cute, with its oversized ears and that lovely inquisitive expression:bg3:
I like the vertical crop and that soft BG, but trying to figure out how you got away with this at 1/200s:Whoa!:, for this baby does look sharp to me - so well done!
Have never seen this species in real life so quite difficult to comment on the colour of its fur, I personally would have used the burn tool a little here and there, but perhaps your intention was to emphasise the change of the subject's coat, this in-between stage when there are no more spots but just clumps of fur:)
Lovely capture and I enjoyed viewing, also spent some time with my friend Mr Google to learn about the species:) so thank you so much for sharing Steve, I appreciate it!
Kind regards,

Hi Steve - I never thought about them changing the colors of the coat depending on season. Nice details and sharpness. Vertical comp works well. Nicely done.

Hi Steve, the soft light and overall colour palette work oh so well to create a nice portrait of this little one, like the central placement.
