I processed this a while ago (so I don't remember everything) from an underexposed backlit shot, though I'm sure that I boosted exposure to blow all but the darks, then worked the feather detail and color from a less boosted 2nd raw conversion. Most likely with Topaz Adjust, Detail & DeNoise (with underexposure luckily this was at ISO800 w/my D3 so the noise was minimal).
What I am particularly fond of in this image is the reverse of the blown highlights on water shooting toward the sun to everything blown except for the reflected shadow on the water. I should try that again some day.
Thanks for looking.
Cheers,
-Michael-

Lovely work Michael. Love the reddish pink on the neck, ( and the highlight from the backlighting) and the pose. Placement perfect and the reflection in the water is very cool. Well done!

Reddish Egrets are tough birds to find even in Florida, lovely image for theme, love the raised leg. Well Done

Hi, Michael, great pose and I like the graphic look of the water contrasting with the color in the reddish egret (I love them!):S3:

A dramatic image created by the pose of the bird, the staring eye and the processing. Good composition and shadows in the water. The white works well. Is there some loss of detail in the center body, just behind the neck? I can't quite tell, and would be surprised because there is so much detail in the rest of the feathers.
