Meerkats having their fun and Sir Guard scanning the landscape for predators. I was following my friends for a whole morning, digging, eating playing sentries and so on.
LR, the usual, played a lot with the sky to get it right. Salt pan skies are to die for!!! Pulled it into PS CC applied levels and Midtones. Added a few touch ups for the face and that's it.
Used for this image
MK III ( glad that this is sold)
70-200 L IS the old one, since this image is from 2010 or 2011
1/1000sec f/9 ISO 1000 because I wanted actually to get them jumping and not guarding the landscape or abusing my body as their tower
PS Andreas, sorry that I post rare. I have some priorities; first comes maintain the family, household and dogface. After that comes my photo business, which I try to get up running better. This cost a lot of time to invest to do so and is on the 4th place on my maintaining list. I do want to travel, no money honey - no travel honey! I assume you understand this :w3

Hi Anette - Great to see you posting an image and it's a fun one as well as something different. Nice detail and tones. I have to say the blank sky isn't really doing it for me and I might consider cropping about half of it out. If it were mine I might also back off on the sharpening on the body slightly.
TFS,
Rachel

Hi Rachel,
thanks so much. The sky as said sarcastically it is to die for lololol. It could not be more boring, but is not my subject. Sharpening when I see it here, right you are. Not sure if I crop more off from the sky, I had it first horizontal, but than there was to much space to the right, since this sentry changed his head position to fast, but like this one when the gang runs around the guards feet. Will see might get back to horizontal and scrap off the "oh so wonderful boring sky". Next day we had at least a few fluffy pieces of clouds, but no Meerkats :eek3:
thanks again Rachel for your time
Ciao Anette

Hi Anette , great you found time to post and comment .
Fully understand your points regarding making decisions what comes first in life.
We have not seen Meerkats for a while , so very nice you have chosen them to post , even if taken with old kit.
I am fine with the image as presented with that nice boring sky , does not bother me at all . I like the comp with the guard standing up and the others busy running around, very nice tone and saturated colors.
Agree with Rachel about backing off on the sharpening slightly .
Hope you find some spare time , for us :bg3:.

Thanks a lot Andreas,
I think with the sharpening is, that I changed my workflow in LR slightly just for the Meerkats. I see that I actually need to sharpen now just the half or even less, very good, mission accomplished. The old ham of MK III has it's different life!!
Will add BPN in the row of my maintaining list :w3 Andreas.
Have a great evening
Ciao Anette

Hi Anette, you have a nice series of images with this subject, glad you found time to post some.
I'm OK with the overall presentation, nice warm light and these guys are so full of character, love the sentry on duty. I can't really comment on the sky, but do feel the horizon line touching the head is not ideal and would have liked a bit more space to separate things, not a deal breaker and at least it isn't running through the head. :w3

Thank you very much Snajeev, Christopher and Steve :S3:
Steve, lololololol, the horizon, I lined it up on the head :t3 in this image and nearly all, the sky, geeeez give me something better and there are better ones out there. But those cannot be found right now here either!!
I assume you saw my runners in my gallery. Not finished with uploading, have a few more folders to go. I want to clear lots here at least, before the new hamster cage arrives to take over. Hope that runs as fast as those little funny chaps with a few things.
Thanks so much everybody for your time, have a great start into the week
Ciao

Hi Annette,
I love the light and the sentry meerkat.
I am not loving the fact that 2 of the meerkats are running away from the viewer .
I am never keen on "butt" shots but perhaps that is because I am more of a bird photographer with bird photography aesthetics!:w3
I also find that my eye gets pulled to where the face of the meerkat intersects with the upright meerkat. Wish for a bit more separation.

Hi Gail,
thanks a lot, right you are with butt shots. I do not mind in this one much. The nose getting "swallowed" by the legs of the sentry that is life :c3:
Have a great day
