Lovely sky and setting, I made a few changes that are easier shown than explained, I selected various colors from the sky and toned parts of the images, lowering the opacity of the brush so as not to lose details. I've used this technique in many of my images. I hope its ok that I changed your image.. :bg3: p.s. where do you get all these lovely sailboat images?
As always a very dramatic sky! I like the glow that Paul added to the sails. It warms up the entire image and makes the sail boat appear more natural with the lighting. I would not have thought of it and will try to remember the technique. OOTB is the greatest place to exchange techniques since we all stray from the straight and narrow!
I agree with Paul's comments. In compositing, it's very important to get everything about the lighting/shadows consistent and to consider it's effects. I'd also suggest lopping off a good bit of the sky -- enough to put the divine proportions or rule-of-thirds line through the bright upper part of the sky that runs from edge to edge. That would give a stronger composition while leaving a good bit of the dark clouds.
I am always looking for suggestions. Thanks. I did paint the sails with a thin layer of the warm sky color, but perhaps not enough. The original Sail pic was from an overcast day, so was quite blue. I used to do quite a lot of sailing photos (25 or so years ago) so when I haven't been able to get out and take some new photos, I will dip into the old slide file... The sunrise cloud pic was a few days ago.
I have posted a new version, and made some of the suggested changes along with a bit of topaz Impression.
New version with a bit of sky cropped out, warmer color in the sail area, darker clouds and a bit of Topaz Impression.
It's a wonderful image, but I have to vote for Paul's version and Dennis' crop.
I love your reflections, but whenever I have a reflection running out of the frame I try to leave enough of it that I can soften or darken it at the edge, so it isn't pulling my eye out of the frame.
