It's pretty hot in South Texas right now, and I've had no time to get online since I've been here. I stole a little time to process some of my photos and thought I'd post one on BPN. It's a female Northern Cardinal. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a nice look at a Painted Bunting, but haven't even seen one yet. Birds are great down here (it's my first visit for bird photography).

This is the wrong image (not saturated enough), but Smugmug is not working right now and I can't upload the correct version. Drag!

Doug,
For a female Northern Cardinal this looks pretty accurate.
Maybe taking 1/3 of a stop off would make it look a little more saturated.
The placement in the frame, the room around your subject, eye contact, subject pose and sharpness all work for me.
Thanks for sharing,
James

Really well done, Doug. I have to agree with Dad on this one, looks pretty accurate. The only thing that I can add is that I might like to selectively tone down the shine on your subjects beak. Love the background.

I like it too, Doug. My only suggestion was going to be to consider toning down what are essentially specular highlights on the beak - as Blake mentioned above.

Wrong image or not I like it Doug and The suggestions on toning down the beak is the only minor nit IMO. Beautiful capture and composition !!! Hope you see the painted bunting soon < smile > I will be waiting.

A beauty, Doug--with a striking and alert pose. Excellent!

The saturation really looks good to me Doug. I really like the alert pose that you captured. I agree with Blake and the others that the shiny bill might look better toned down. Good luck on the buntings!

Great bokeh here really works to achieve some strong subject isolation. Not saturated enough or not, I like the colors as is. As others mention this seems pretty accurate color.
