I got the new Topaz Impression plugin yesterday and I think I'm going to like this one. It takes a bit of work to get the look you want, but there are many styles and permutations possible. These little goslings were in a pool of light on dark water, just right... I set the brush for low coverage so that is why there are bits of the canvas showing through.
You were able to get a subtle effect here. Very nice. I guess I will have to read the manual...
Well done Kerry! Very realistic painting. You might consider adding a little highlighting to the end of the bill on the right as on my screen it blends with the background.
Mitch, I just looked at the names of all the adjustments and checked out what they did. Have you found the "strength" slider at the bottom left of the window? It allows you to set the opacity and even the blend mode. I also found that adjusting the "stroke width" allows you to get a more subtle effect.
Judy, you are right about that bill and I stressed over it but there was no separation in the original image so I couldn't do much without it looking wrong. Maybe I should reconsider though, because there is almost always a way!
I like the lighting, the brush strokes, and the analogous colour scheme Kerry. Would you have any more canvas for the bottom, or was there a reason for the tight crop there? I think Judy makes an excellent point about the beak.
