Tis a gathering...(Bonaparte's Gulls).

Close to full submersion for this one, with only my head, neck, arms and hands above water, while laying prone is several inch deep water...Enjoyable, but getting up with the camera remaining dry gets a bit tricky... :) These Bonaparte's Gulls were photographed during fall migration near Lake Superior on the Minnesota side. The gulls are in non-breeding plumage....SonyA300, Sigma50/500, iso200, f9, 1/2000, cropped, NR to the bg and fg, USM. Comments and critiques welcome.

Love the composition and aesthetics of this shot. I can so easily imagine how close to the ground you were.

I like the composition and the extremely low angle, and the background, even the reflection. I only wish the two birds on the right didn't merge at the beak, and looked more like the birds on the left.

I love the effect of the reflections due to the very low angle. The white on dark looks great too. Well exposed, processed. I too wish the two birds at right were better aligned than they are, but this is a very pleasing image overall.

lovely low angle, good exposure and I like the smooth reflections, I also wish for some separation between the in-focus bird and the OOF one behind him.

I like the composition very much. It would be perfect if the gull behind the one in focus was looking the other way but you could do nothing about it. BG, reflection, exposure look top notch. TFS

Hi Shawn, fantastic perspective here, and just love the 'stretched' reflections. The overall exposure looks good, and the whites really pop against that killer BG.

Did the gulls fly off when you stood up?

I like this one Shawn. The low, low angle really makes for a unique view. I think you couldnt get better exposure and detail in the IF bird. I really like the drawn out reflections. I dont mind the overlapping bird but imagine if the bird on the left were IF too. :) Well scene and captured
