DPP 4.0 a major upgrade.

It appears to be a major upgrade with very good highlight and shadow recovery. So far it only works with the most recent cameras. I will be very interested to see what Arash thinks of the upgrade.

It has many improvements both in terms of interface/organization (basically like LR/C1 now) and also finer adjustment for processing. The algorithms are great producing sharp clean images at the highest ISO

Certainly a big improvement Arash from the rather prehistoric versions they have been running over the years. Seems to have less of a colour shift when exported to PS, but I still feel it a little clunky compared to LR. Wish they added various filters you have in LR/PS, personal prefs. BTW applying sharpening, is that now done within the Sharpening/Unsharp table, as previously it was in a separate module? Although probably just me, can't find it. :w3

Hi Arash, it certainly a big/huge step forward and away from the clunky, archaic platform they have provided over the many years, likewise the architecture, but although I rarely use it, it's not that intuitive IMHO. Thought they would also add ProPhoto as an option? BTW if you apply any pre sharpening, is it now within the Unsharp mask/sharpening module? Certainly IMHO the colour shift from DPP to PS is a lot better, but personally I like the refining tools & filters you have in LR, but I guess it is what you are use too.

Yes guys a great improvement compared to old version , sadly at present only for the latest bodies.
For me i use it mainly , if i use DPP , for the highest IQ possible .
Agree with Steve about the limitation of ICC profiles available, ProPhoto RGB would be great as output profile.
I greatly like the color output compared to ACR :w3.

Hi Steve,

First, no version of DPP has any color shift when you export to PS. There is something wrong in your system. You must be using different color profiles for each program...

I don't understand what you mean by pre-sharpening.

Also I have been processing tens of thousands of files with DPP since 2007, so I don't personally agree with your statements that it was clunky, archaic etc. it's a matter of personal choice. I can certainly archive the highest quality results with it :w3

I actually don't like programs like LR that create lots of garbage and hundreds of nested folders in the name album/gallery/project etc. they waste time and disk space... For my Fuji XT1 camera I use Capture One and I hate its interface that is very similar to LR. I wish Fuji also had something like DPP.

Arash is this also available to be used with a Mark IV?

Lightroom lets you manage folder structure however you want it. I've been using LR since v2 and there is nothing in my file structure that looks like "name/album/gallery."

But I certainly have some Collections that give me great control over large projects. They don't clutter up the file structure, either. They're referenced in the Catalog database, which only appears as a single file tucked away where I don't need to bother seeing it.

Juan, right now its 1Dx and 5D3 I believe. I'm sure older cameras will be added later

Hi Arash, as you say, it's what you are used to and suits your workflow. I used DPP in the early days of when I got my first digital body and then moved to Capture One, toggled between the two, then jumped to LR, but it's all about being 'comfortable' within your workflow and what you wish to do within it. System is fine, definitely a colour shift, plus if you remember some time ago we talked/emailed about DPP and about certain options that were not available for whatever reason within DPP based on being a Mac user.

Re sharpening, before in DPP under RGB you had Hue, Sat, Sharpening where you could apply some sharpening if you so wish, but I cannot see the option in Version 4, any pointers?

No denying your choice of using DPP has clearly given you exceptional images and with the new version perhaps I need to try it again. :w3

Hi Steve, I have a Mac too and I don't have any color shifts. How can your Mac be different ? If you set the color profiles correctly there should be no color shift.

The sharpness setting is right there in the tools palette, see below.

<embed id="application/x-exifeverywhere" type="application/x-exifeverywhere" width="0" height="0">I think that we all would like some PS and LR tools added to DPP, but there is little doubt in my mind that DPP is simply the best raw converter for Canon. Colours are better, correct and images more detailed compared to any of the other conversions. (I don't think there's one I haven't used)

I thinks 6D bodies can use DPP4 as well. 1D4 not yet.

Just been trying DPP4 - much better than previous. I must be a little dim however because when performing a simple adjustment to the histogram I can readily increase the exposure with the brightness slider but I don't see an equivalent setting for the "blacks". Under Gamma adjustment there are the Advanced settings, here is a Shadow setting I am guessing this is the equivalent? I am surpised that there is no tutorial on the Canon website - has any one found one yet?
