This is strange.
When I had CC and my old pc with 4mb of ram, I had no problems using it.
I just upgraded to a new pc with 16mb of ram. Now I'm having ram problems.
After using the quick selection tool two or three times, I'll get a message telling
me I don't have enough ram to perform it again.
So I have to get out of Photoshop, get back in, use the tool a few more times, etc.
Any suggestions on what to try? I've tried purging the clipboard in PS. No luck.

Doug - In PS under the Edit tab, go to Preferences and then to Performance and see how much RAM you are allowing PS to use.
Right now it says:
Available Ram: 1616mb
Ideal Range: 889-1163 mb
Let Photoshop use: 969 mb (60%)

Doug - that doesn't make sense if you have 16gb of RAM. I have 16GB of RAM and PS uses about 10,000mb so there should be another 0 on each of those numbers.
It looks like PS only sees 1.6GB RAM (1600MB). What version of Windows are you using? If you have a 32Bit OS it can only see 3.6GB RAM.
I'm using Win 7 Ultimate.
I tried increasing the %. Processing got a little faster, but I'm still getting those
ram messages about every 2 or 3 times when using the quick select.
BTW, in case I wasn't clear enough, when I get that ram message for the quick
select tool...I can still use everything else in PS, except that tool, unless I quit
and start PS again.

Is it 64bit or 32bit?
Unfortunately its 32 bit. I'm guessing my best option is to upgrade to 8.1 64 bit?

Thats right 32 bit cannot support more than 3.6GB. You have to upgrade to 64bit.
Windows 7 Ultimate supports 64 bit and PS CC should be seeing that. You may be opening the wrong version by mistake, as both are loaded into your computer. Check the file location, it should be C:\Program Files\Adobe\AdobePhotoshop CC (64 bit)\Photoshop.exe.
If you have a shortcut on your desktop that is pointing to Program Files (x86), then you are just opening the wrong version.
Windows 7 comes in both 64Bit and 32Bit flavors. If you install the 32Bit version by mistake there is no way to change from 32Bit to 64Bit after installation because the kernels are different. To fix this issue you have to wipe out your drive and install Windows again from scratch using the 64Bit installation disk/option.Quote:

I don't know enough about computers to know that the different versions are actually running, but it seems worth trying and see if that fixes Doug's problem before he goes to the trouble of rebuilding his hard drive. I think you are confusing PS with Windows, Doug already established his windows is 32 bit (pane 8). you cannot run a 64 bit program on a 32bit OS.
However, if you have a 64Bit OS, you can run either 32Bit or 64Bit programs.
