I first made it high key although there was very little detail of movement in the water and I painted it out. I added fog with Color Efex. I used an Exposure 5 wet plate preset, tweaked. Then I added a texture.

Judy-this is fabulous! You started with a great capture and took it a couple of steps further. The only thing I would address are the blurry blobs of haze on the lead Goose. Wish I had a double pose like this in my files.
Nicely done, like the effects, not sure about the framing, TFS
Great poses captured of the geese and I like the glowing circle that you used to surround and visually frame them. Thinking about the framing as per Paul's comments; I wonder if you made the two vertical edges softer like the horizontal edges. I think those more obvious details of the wet plate effect pull your eye away from the geese.
Thanks Nancy. I decided to just post one without the framing. Actually I will post 2 versions, one with the texture toned down with lower opacity and one without the texture.
Repost without frame or texture and neck fixed. I like it a lot this way too.
This one is the same as the above but with more subtle texture than the OP.
Can't choose:bg3:! Like them both! I prefer the images without the framing since the circle glow already acts as a frame.
Hi Judy, it's a very nice image and you could take it several different ways. I like the original, as I am a fan of the really old processes, but I also appreciate your final repost. I do like the tamed-down texture of that final image and the cleaned up neck of the left goose. Nice work!
Love the details of the Canada Geese. Well done. It is fun to see the geese grooming themselves, standing on that spit of land allowing you to capture the reflections. I like all three versions. Your idea of the wet plate is an interesting one. I wondered what would happen if I took some off the top, making the geese go more into the upper third of the image, instead of in the middle. I also took a tiny bit off the right side. Added some contrast and adjusted levels. Now that I see my version posted, it looks a bit warmer than I intended. I'd meant to keep it cool like your OP. Just another idea.
Thanks for the comments and suggestions Anita. Although your version is a good alternative, I prefer my original crop. I took down the contrast since it was supposed to be in the fog although if I wasn't submitting it as a theme image I would have left it higher contrast. I might post one with more contrast if I can do it easily in the psd file.
Hi, Judy, I'm partial to the OP:S3:
Congratulations.
