Trying again to make something of this image. It was taken years ago and failed as a landscape image because the foreground was out of focus. At the time I was unaware of proper landscape technique, but enough of the disclaimers... :c3:
This time I used several mixer brushes - a watercolor brush for the water and sky, and two small oil brushes for the foliage and mountains. There are thousands of brush strokes in this image, plus a couple of textures added. Every bit of the image has been painted over.

I like the colors and your brushwork. And it seems like this was a great way to hide the unfocused foreground. I would never have guessed that was an issue. This might just be a personal preference thing, but I'd be inclined to crop off a fair amount of the sky to make the composition even better and to feature the mountains, trees, and water.

Kerry, it appears you have taken to digital painting like a duck to water. This appears to be a great way of rescuing a good but slightly flawed image from the trash bin. With no personal painting experience, I will defer to Dennis's favorable critique of the brush work. I also agree that cropping some sky would be beneficial. My eye keeps catching lines of faint, evenly spaced dots which are most evident in the sky.

You must have a lot of patience Kerry! I couldn't do thousands of brush strokes :bugeyed: although restoring old photos and hand-tinting is tedious at times. It looks very nice. I agree about a crop at the top, maybe just above the longer darker cloud.

Hi, Kerry, a beautiful scene - well painted:S3: I can see the small marks that Gary mentioned also.

Lovely, iconic summer scene with good water reflections. What I see appears to be a canvas texture in the background, like you would get with oil paint.

I think you rescued the out of focus foreground. I agree about croping the sky, but, not essential. I think you made an attractive image. I'm not fond of the canvas texture as it seems too pronounced, and I'm noticing the evenly placed small even-dents/spots that cross the image horizontally in various places. Lovely colors. Looking forward to more paintings.

Thanks for your comments everyone! I believe I used the "sandstone" texture on this one and that's where the dots came from. I agree that they are annoyingly repetitious, but I didn't catch that! :c3: Great to have so many well-trained eyes...

This looks like the Tetons and the Oxbow river. Really well done Kerry. I think if it was on an actual canvas it would be repetitious, but perhaps not quite so prominent.
