Lovely painting Kerry. I like the backlighting on the bird, it gives the overall feeling of moodiness/drama with the darks in the image. I find my eye keeps going to the dark green in the ULC, I might lighten that. I am enjoying your explorations into Painting.
Love your painting on this & how the colors spread out. Looks like saturated watercolors on blotting paper. I get the feeling the sparrow is sneaking in to the bird bath under heavy vegetation cover. I would be tempted to not have any strokes/colors bleeding onto the head of the sparrow, since I believe you still want the sparrow to be the focus of this image. I do like it down by the legs and the tail. The whitish glow & that lovely bit of bright blue also guides your attention to the sparrow.
Kerry, the combination of painting and textures works really well for this one. I love the gorgeous colors of blue. I also LOVE your signature on your work:S3: Did you make the tree/bird?
I like the detail of the sparrow and the watercolor wash of the background. The yellows and browns in the background tie everything together. With the difference in detail between the sparrow and the rest of the image, I wonder how it would look if the detail of the birdbath (???) were brought back somewhat so there'd be a transition instead of an abrupt change near its feet.
Kerry, I like the bold splash of colors and the subtle patches of fabric in the bg. If mine , I would try to better define the tip of the beak and superior surface of the tail.

Your little bird stand out nicely from its surroundings. In part it is the color, and in part that the bird is more detailed. I'd tone down the net looking effect on the left. Is that vegetation making the birdbath edge uneven? I find it a bit distracting.
