Ok, just one more... :c3: There is a very cute little Allen's Hummingbird living at my house right now, and I found him relaxing on a branch in a pine tree. Painted in Photoshop using the mixer brush and a couple of textures, then enhanced with Nik CEP using a recipe I made that uses the glamour glow, blur vignette, and dark vignette filters.
Several of you have asked about how to learn this technique, but since I am learning it in a workshop I can't really mention it in the forum. However, if you send me a PM I will direct you to the workshop if you are interested.

Dynamite colors and composition. I'm guessing that the canvas texture is from, well, a texture. It's nice that it's fairly subtle and variable. I also like that the brownish color in the background surrounds the hummingbird. Very nicely done.

Exceptional colors, pose and brush work. I especially like how the sky has what looks like bird feather repeats throughout. My only critique would be that the branch beyond the little bird looks thick and heavy-pulling the eye out of the area of interest. Kerry, another nicely done piece.

This is great! Love the glow on the hummer, maybe a bit more light up by the eye. The mix of bkgd textures and brush strokes looks great. I like that you used the orange in the hummer also in the bkgd.

Really nicely done Kerry. Love the colours on the bird and the BG is very complimentary with the rusts and oranges.

Beautiful painting effect Kerry. I love how the canvas shows up. I think in Jack Davis' Painting in Photoshop class at creativelive.com he showed how to add texture to a brush when painting via the brushes panel. Is that what you did? I never tried it because I really haven't done any "creative painting" yet.

Beautiful image and editing. Love it! I agree with all the positive comments above. Beautiful colors and brushstrokes and textures. I agree about the branch being a bit too heavy at the end. Please keep posting these paintings.

Thanks everyone! Judy, I just realized I didn't answer your question about the texture. While texture can be added to any brush, that is not what I did here - it's just a texture applied over the base image.
