I photographed this rose in my neighbor's yard summer of 2013 with my OM-D. I used the jpg I'd created before and opened it in the Camera Raw filter in CC (love that filter!) and I used the oval gradient to darken and lessen the focus on the backgrond and lighten the rose a bit, some of which was lost in further processing as it got darker but I liked it like that. Then I used Perfect Effects with a preset that had a dozen layers, some of which I turned off, and I changed the texture that the author chose. I used Nik Color Efex with several filters including a vignette and darken/lighten center. I masked a bit and I masked in a lighter texture at lowered opacity just on the rose. I also added a little canvas above and below and filled with Content aware. The slight edge effect was done in the preset in PE.

This has a deep romantic feel to it, one that encompasses all the highs and lows of romance. The bit of water can be interpreted as tears. I immediately thought of Romeo and Juliet. The selective lighting is delicate and the multiple layers of texture and colors add a lot of depth. Beautifully created!

I really like the placement of the light source in this image. It is nicely reflected in the largest water drop giving a nice highlight. Very nicely executed - lovely image!

The colors, the dark tones, the lighting, and, of course, the rose, combine to give a very rich look. Nicely done.
