I don't know much about birds, but I like this little one. The processing you used is just right to bring out some details. Nice colors and crossing branches. I'd crop heavily from the right, a touch from the bottom, and a bit from the top. The bird is nicely posed. I really like seeing the feet, the feather detail, and the bit of yellow in the tail.
Hi, Stuart, this looks like it must have been a really nice base image. I like Anita's crop but would leave the top the way it is. I think before applying oil paint I would lighten the dark stems in the background a bit.:S3:
There are several ways to do it, but I agree on cropping to get the bird out of the center. Those diagonals are effective elements. I like the colors, too, but -- with the yellow-green -- I'd be inclined to add a bit of its complement, reddish violet, to the two foreground branches.
This almost looks like 3-D with the bird nearly jumping off the screen! I really like all those different greens and shapes in the bkgd. They don't conflict with the bird because the colors are so very different from the bird. Great diagonal perch. I would consider cropping some from the right, but not from the top.
I think this image has potential, but for me the texture on the BG overpowers the bird. Maybe mask it back to half strength, or use different parameters for bird and BG?
I like the oil paint treatment and Anita's excellent crop as the bird is too-centered in the OPost...
