Theme: Poor Trees

I know snow is the theme, but right now we don't have any. Saturday night we got walloped with ice! 250,00 still without power in Toronto. I was lucky to get mine back after one (freezing day and night). So I put on the crampons walked around and saw the tally of dead limbs laden with ice, many of which broke off and hit power lines. So I found this one at the back of the property, and the purple kind of reminded me of the flashes that I saw on Sunday night as limbs hit power lines, sort of an ominous purple colour.
Frac, poster edges and textures used. It looks sort of like a bonsai until you realize it is hanging on for dear life.

You did a beautiful job with this. The color, and the way it follows the shape of the tree, is wonderful. It's ironic that something that unfortunate can lead to such an image, but it's to your credit that it looks the way it does. I'm glad you didn't have to endure more time than you did without power. I ran around taking photos of ice-encased limbs and leaves Sunday morning, but there was no serious damage to be seen -- fortunately.

Glad you survived the power outage. We have them here a lot, with rains, but not when it's cold like that!

Hard to picture that much ice without snow. Hope the tree survived.

I've been there and done that years ago, when we got hit by a major ice storm that toppled ever power pole in the county. It was not a common event where I use to live and here in Florida it is even more rare! :tinysmile_shy_t: Not a fun time. We were out for about a week, but luckily we had a fireplace and wood to keep us somewhat warm. However, I was taking a photo course then and the darkroom was very dark. I did get some great images though with the plants and trees iced over. It's a beautiful event and very unsettling at the same time. Glad you had better luck than most getting up and running.

The bkgd is so lovely and the tree so skeletal looking and broken. With heavy snow I would run around outside with a broom and try to whack the snow off the trees to keep them from breaking. But ice is a force beyond a mere broom! Good to hear you have your power back.

Jackie, I'm glad you have your power back - loss of power in Florida is one thing but in Canada in winter I can only imagine. Lovely image - beautiful and slightly ominous at the same time.:S3:

Stunning image of the icy trees. I am distressed to hear of so many without power in the US from ice, and in very cold conditions. Makes me glad I live in the south. I only remember one ice storm from freezing rain back about 1988 -89 and we had a lot of pine trees out in the country and it sounded like a war zone with all the limbs from pine trees breaking. We only had about 1/4" too.

I tried it both ways Anita, and decided the image looked a bit flat without it.

Cold brrrr... Love the colors and the tree, I always wonder how trees survive so many things, guess they adapt like we do, I hope this one bounces back.
