I'm not sure if this is a texture on a picture of a tree or a tree on a picture of a texture. I'm always surprised by how these things come together. The sun star was done in camera, and I had cleaned up the tree (the inevitable power lines) and was looking for an element to add drama. I rummaged around a while in a textures folder and very quickly pulled up this one (rusty metal on a building). I could hardly believe how well the shapes matched the tree. It looked somewhat astronomical, thus the title.

This is other-worldly looking! The sun star is the perfect focus point with the silhouetted tree branches arching gracefully outward and the texture in the rust continuing to pull your eye outward to encompass the entire image. It does feel like an expansion into the cosmos! It is amazing how well these 2 images fit together and that the bits of blue are just within the reach of the tree. The colors are wonderful. Well put together!

Diane, this is outstanding!! Other-worldly is a good description. I love the blues and rust tones. Just gorgeous and the star burst makes it perfect.

It looks like the tree silhouette and texture were made for each other. That's apparent to us in the finished image, but you deserve a lot of credit for recognizing it during your search. The lean of the tree makes a great diagonal. Nicely done.

Holy moly, Diane, that's one of the best tree images I've ever seen!! It goes so well with the texture which has the most wonderful colors and textures in it. And if you were to use Clean or blur it, it could also be a magical sky!

Very nice work. As all have said, the texture is perfect for the image. Good job getting that lovely sun-star in camera! The tree itself has a great shape. The texture is beautiful. I wonder if the texture in the upper half, left of center, might be toned down just a tad to allow it to slightly recede and let the tree be seen more easily. When I look at that area, what I see it texture, not tree. Anyway, an excellent use of texture!

Thanks everyone! Anita, I see what you mean -- will tweak it --easy to do with layers!!
This one sort of did itself. Happens more often than I can explain.

Wow! This looks awesome, Diane! I find texture overlays always have that element of surprise because you never know how the photo will look until you start slapping textures on it. Very well done!

Inspired use of a radically different texture from the subject. Very ethereal and love those rust colours!
