Mallard

remask, simplify & Flood.

Hi Mitch, this mallard looks just like he's going to land in that water. Good job with the placement in the frame. Flood really works well in this one; I love the sense of depth out to the horizon.

Those diagonal lines of the clouds behind the duck really enhance the feeling of coming down for a landing. Dramatic side lighting on the duck with good reflections. You do have that flood effect perfected!

You did a great job with the light in this image. Overall, though, the image doesn't work well for me. To my eye, the Mallard is too big in relation to the water. The rays of light, which in themselves are great, seem to be pushing the Mallard backwards, which I suspect is not what you intended. I like both the Mallard and the sky/water.

After reading your comments, I looked at the image again and indeed the duck does seem to be pushed back by the light! Not what I intended, and I must admit, that I did not perceive it until your comments.

This is the type of thing I often overlook in my own photos--how it looks to someone else. :-)
