Chiaroscuro Statue

I took this image in the courtyard of the Lightner Museum in St. Augustine. I originally was working with it as a color image and had used Tonal Contrast in Nik Color Efex. I decided to try making it into a theme entry and started out by doing a Gradient mask to change it to B&W. Then I used Nik Reflector effect to highlight the face and a dark vignette (I had to paint part of the background black to eliminate the building in the bg and a bush). Then I took it into LR and used the Radial tool to add more lighting to the face and finally Topaz Dark Night and brushed out part of the effect.

Great use of lighting and shadows, Cheryl! I love the the polished look to the statue.

Textbook example of the theme (haha, easier than typing chiaroscuro) illustrating the use of contrasting light (and dark) to add modelling to an object. Nice job Cheryl!

Greetings. Interesting look. I like the way the face is emphasized and the sparse representation of the hand showing the impact of chiaroscuro. I can't quite make out what is happening to the body on the left side. a bit more of the body on that side would work for me.

Spooky looking Cheryl, I really like it! The BG just adds a bit of mystery for me.

Wonderful chiaroscuro, Cheryl! Great use of the filters for the effect. I especially like the texture/glow of the statue. Thanks for posting the original, too. It really shows how the use of light and shadow can completely transform an image.
