Today there was a particularly good tide so I went to Hoylake and got down low and waited for the tide to push the birds towards me. It was a good twenty minutes spent after which I decided to move so as not to spook the birds as they got closer and closer.
The image is cropped slightly for levelling and composition purposes.
All C&C welcome.

Lots of dynamic tension here, Jonathon, with the raised leg and the bill in the mud.
Curiously, is that some kind of film on the water that prevents a full mirror image?
Also, if the photo were mine, I'd probably clone out the two smudge-like areas in the water near the bottom left.
I find the subdued lighting very attractive. It creates a mood that is almost palpable. TFS !

Nice low shooting angle. I like the raised foot and the overall pose.

Jon:
Sharp, well exposed, nice shooting angle, like the 'three' legged effect of bill in water.
Too bad about the reflection being disrupted.
Cheers

Very nice! What would you think about cropping from the top to get rid of the two dark areas near to center and adding the equivalent to the bottom? I love the reflection but it feels crowded, especially with the amount of room left on the top.

Love your good field technique and patience. Nice low shooting angle, the raised foot, reflection. I wish for just a wee bit more at the bottom. Loi

Thanks very much for your comments everyone, not too sure why the reflection was interrupted - probably just the depth of water. I will have a look at a recrop.
