Me, I've never paid attention to what's the best. What might be great for the people doing a review
might not be so great for me. Through the years I've pretty much tried every raw conversion known
to man, but I keep coming back to the free DPP (Digital Photo Professional) from Canon.

I've been using DxO Optics Pro for about 4-years now. I'm now using v. 8.3. I also use DPP occasionally and find the results comparable, but I find DPP clunkier to use. In a lot of DPReview's camera reviews they'll show Raw conversion with DxO vs. LR and I almost prefer DxO's rendering. My main complaint about is that it has no local adjustment tool. I still own PS and use it once in a blue moon if I really, really need a local adjustment. The other shortcoming is a comparative lack of other users to share information with. The trial is free. I think that it's Digital Lens Optimization, that it pioneered, is still one of the two best, now that DPP has finally added DLO.
