Taken with a Nikon D3100 tAMRON 70-300mm Di LD, Exposure 1/2000 , Aperture F5.6 , ISO 1600 , this was taken hand held at full 300mm zoom ,it was the only shot of the Heron that day , It had just stopped raining and was a quite a grey miserable day , this image made me very happy , I hope it does for you too.
Grey Herons make great subjects and often overlooked. For me this one is way tight in the frame, recompose if you have canvas or add to right , left a little and top.
Image appears too bright and soft, did you apply NR to the bird? Whites lack detail; Posting my version though whites are problematic.

Significant improvement over your last heron. The larger f/stop has given better subject isolation. Well exposed overall.
The image is cropped a bit too tight ( bird too large in the frame). If you have more canvas in the orignal,, I would try a version with more room top and too the right.
The bird can use some more sharpening as well. What software are you using for your post processing?

Thanks for the kind feed back I use Lightroom 5 and Photoshop CS6 I'm not not how i go about sharpening a picture with these programs

The answers and help are all here;have a read of the out of the box...post processing forum. There are different takes on the best way/setting for sharpening; loads of good info in there!
Hi Nigel, good advice from the guys above. The main concern here is that you have posted too large. The maximum vertical posting size is 900 pixels, and your image is 1024 high.
Nigel I think you have the makings of a good image. I have played around with your jpeg, I think it needs a little more contrast but not much more and when I sharpened an 800px image of yours using Smart Sharpen it looked good - certainly worth having another go at the initial raw conversion and then if necessary reassessing contrast in Photoshop and in particular making sure you don't blow the highlights and reposting:w3
Hi Nigel, nice to see another post from you and I agree it is an improvement over the last post. Still a little tight in the frame but the depth of field is better as mentioned. You can Google tutorials on those programs for learning just about any tool. Keep them coming
