Male rufous-taled Jacamar, Atlantic lowlands, Costa Rica. I was tempted to darken the BG but this was how it looked in the real world. It's a rare occurence when there's so much light inside the humid and dark rain forest so I was quite happy to see this bird with such nice light on BG.

This is a wonderful shot! I wish it were mine. I would suggest taking a little green out of the background, if you want to bring out the lovely greens in the plumage.
Juan Carlos, this is a stunning portrait of a bird I've never seen before. Well composed and details look good on my screen. I like the vegetation along the perch and the single leaf below (though I might be tempted to "repair" the hole in it). Colors are vivid and the lighting looks wonderful. Maybe just a slight tone down of the brighter circles in the background but that's not a real complaint. I keep going back to look at this image because I really like it.
nice pose and details, I like the perch but the lone leaf in the FG is distracting. there is a bit of a green cast from filtered light
Great capture. What an amazing dagger of a bill. I love the comp; it would be equally lovely without the leaf in the LLC, but in a way that helps to anchor the image. Interesting suggestion from Diane. In my limited experience in tropical rainforests, getting enough light was a constant struggle, so this is a great opportunity well realized. Was the SS really 1/25th?

Sure it was 1/25sec. Bill! eventhough it looks as there was a lot of light for this one there was not enough and I did not wanted to use fill flash since the eyes of this birds get the steely eyed very easy. Thanks for your comments!

Lovely image of the species. The shooting angle was managed well and impressive sharp details given the very slow shutter speed. I totally dig the oof specular highlights in the background. Would not change a thing here.
Hi JC, I like your comp, and the pose of the Jacamar. Overall, nice and sharp, and I like the inclusion of the vine on the perch. I agree, the lone leaf should go, and would blend away the lighter circular highlight middle left.
What a wonderful species this is!! I like the vertical composition alot, including the leaf (which I too would be tempted to "fix" the holes in it). A pretty nifty perch too. The POV looks like it was borderline steep and the head cocked away is a culprit in giving us that impression (I love the bill pointing upwards though!!). I like the highlights in the BG but I'd smoothen the edges of the larger bolder one at left. Lastly, I would try to tame the greenish cast that is apparent here. Still a wonderful image, well exposed, lots of good details.
Nicely done Juan C I last saw one off the bridge in Sarapiqui, they dont show very often.

Juan, following my previous comment here is what I had in mind. Using "Color balance" I added 40 points of magenta to the subject and perch and used a soft clone stamp to soften the edges of the larger highlight. What do you think?
