Landing Whimbrel

Found the high tide roost for these guys and a few Marbled Godwits. Extremely blurred foreground rock removed from lower left. C&C welcome :)

Looks like you had very even lighting as I don't see signs of shadows. Nice wings up pose and solid perch. Maybe consider removing some of the whitewash from the rock?? The moss adds a little color and I like that though. Can't quite tell but is there a water drop just in front of the bird's breast? Since it's not obvious maybe I'd remove that too (but see what other's might have to say about that). I keep thinking maybe a slight more room on the left just to get the bird out of the center of the image??

All in all a solid capture that I would be thrilled with.

I like the balancing pose and wing position. Good details and the tones in the BG add more interest. I would clean up the perch and wish the head was a tad more parallel to the back of the camera for a stronger eye contact.

Great upwing pose, nice clean bg and good exposure. I could imagine the bird just slightly further to the right in the frame. Although the whitewash is part of the "natural" condition, it is a little distracting and might be removed.

That is an awesome pose. I dig all the underwing detail. Gorgeous shorebird species anyway. Great airy background....has a nice coastal vibe to it. I understand the sentiments expressed about the whitewash...The water droplet right under the bird's chest does not really have a context here...I think I'd be inclined to remove it for that reason. Wish for more sparkle in the eye, but that would not have happened with this head angle anyway. The pose captured, and smartly sharpened details trump the lack of catchlight here imo.

Hi Evan, well timed for the landing pose, together with the raised wings. Light looks good, and I like the detail on the whimbrel. The BG works well too.

Awesome climbing pose, and there is just enough of the perch showing. Great BG too. I agree the vertical line of whitewash should go, as well as the single drop. I could see a bit more canvas top and left, but it is OK as is too. As for the eye, if there currently is a reflection in it you can enhance it...I often do that and it makes a big difference many times. Very appealing image!!
