Taken on a trip to Berlin earlier this week.Got up at 0530 and a brisk 30 min walk to a park where I know they breed. Saw a bird that I thought was a Gos, saw her a couple of times briefly and then tracked her down by her food begging cries. Missed the adults doing the food pass but managed a few shots of her feeding in the canopy. All shots hand held with 100-400 is.
Such an awesome raptor, you have no idea how big until you see one in the flesh. Will def be going back next spring/summer to see if i can get some more- might even manage a winter trip to see my daughter who is living out there.
Canon 1D mkIV
Canon 100-400 is
1/320 sec
f 5.6
ISO 1000
Cropped to approx 1/3 of original portrait shot
Lightened and enhanced with highlights/shadows
Warmed up a little in ACR as shot was fairly cool due to the low light under the leaf canopy.
Sharpened in ACR and again when resized for web.

Beautiful raptor or sure. You handled the shadow well here. Love the straight view and the feeding. The crop works well here with the wings covered most of the frame. Loi

Quite the opportunity you witnessed here! A very in-your-face feeding behaviour image. I realize it is already cropped a lot, but I would be tempted to just about halve the thickness of the perch (maybe crop away about 40% of it)...the dark shaded part and the gaps at bottom do not add much IMO and you'd end up with an even stronger comp. I'd also fill in the tiny bright triangle in upper right corner. Quite an enjoyable image to view with lots of intensity to it.

Great comp and crop for this situation. I would use the adjustment brush in conversion to lighten the shadows.

Thanks for the suggestions, will give it a go over the weekend . I think it will take a bit more cropping as I was only 15m away from the bird and it is quite big in the original frame.

Great in your face is right. Looks great for such a large crop but I am with Alan on the shadows. Would definitely improve the image IMO

Pretty much summed up above. An excellent capture Ivan. You may have to sneak me in your suitcase when you visit Berlin again!
