This is a juvenile female harrier, the youngest bird I have seen to date. Her mom was trying to get her to fly but she was very shy. It was a fun quick shoot with Doug and Kristin! We went drinking after!

Lovely colors, nice to see this juvi flying. Soft bg.
Perhaps a little masking artifact in front of the yellow above the bill?
Cheers

Thanks Randy. That's not a masking artifact it's the fine nasal feathers that harriers have. I forgot what's it called :D

THanks for the information. I thought it odd that you would have a processing artifact, but figured it was a side effect of the post shooting libations!

Man, they are prettier than the adults.
I love the dark rich color of the youngster.
Did you enhance the catchlight? It really pops and you got the perfect reflection if you didn't.

Beautiful image. Exudes your typical level of quality control. Wish the sky portion had carried through the frame on the left edge side, as it did for most of the rest of the frame...

Nice capture. I have never seen a baby Harrier before as they don't nest in my area. I love the darker colors of the babies and looks like this guy has only been on the wing for maybe a week or two. Wonderful detail and exposure control on the shot.
Nice work
