Harbingers of spring and deserved of their name.
SonyA300, Sigma50/500, iso400, f9, 1/640, cropped, selective NR applied to the background, selective USM applied to the sparrow and the rose shrubs. Audio used as an attractant. Perch is naturally occurring. Comments and critiques welcome. BTW, the composition is intentional...I see a nice triangular composition here. Some will find the bird too centered, but the space behind the bird and the space in front of the bird feels properly balanced to my mind's eye.

Shawn Zierman.

Hi Shawn, you certainly captured a great singing pose, with a good HA and open beak. The sparrow is nice and sharp, and I like the thorny perch he's perched on. The colours and overall BG really stand out. I respect your note on your reason for your comp, but here are my thoughts - I may have moved him back to the left a touch, and would maybe have removed the slightly OOF piece of foliage lower right. Well captured.

Shawn:
Sharp, well exposed, nice singing pose, flattering light, rich tones in the bg.
Appreciate your compositional thoughts. I think the balance of the subject, pose and negative space does work well here. I certainly could see a version without the rightmost clump of veg, as Stuart pointed out (jumped out at me before reading his excellent post)
Cheers
Randy

The comp works for me.
I would also take out the oof clump on the right.
Man I wish the branch did not cross the tail but you it is tough to get perfection.
The light and BG is terrific.

Hey thanks for the feedback guys....I totally agree about the tail, but I can easily overlook it on this one because the perch was not set up.
Here is a rework per your suggestions....it looks great from a composition standpoint...of course, because you guys have good eyes:w3.

I was OK with the OP, but yes, the repost brings that up a few notches. Nice singing pose, great sweet light, and warm tones throughout. One of my favorite early spring songs!
