This Barred Owled had begun branching earlier in the day. The cavity is actually right in front of where the adult is perched. This fledgling was rather adventurous compared to some and was gone by the next day. The adult came in with a fish and obviously knew the owlet was above, but I thought it was humorous the way it turned around as if searching and the owlet looked down as it to say, "I'm right here!" It appears the adult was goading the owlet to leave the tree since it soon flew away without feeding it.

Hi Marina, nicely composed in vertical, with everything running top to bottom, tree trunk, vines, and of course youngster peeking down at the parent. Overall good DOF, and I like the head turn from the parent showing us the fish. You are so fortunate to witness these scenes, something I would to see one day.

Very sweet. Love the image design. An alternative title might be "Where's my Momma?"

Wonderful storytelling image, Marina. Your comp is super, and I just love how the owlet is looking down at mom. Your techs are perfect as always.

Great image with a storyline. I like the comp. I wonder if a few points less brightness in the BG would focus more on the birds?

Wonderful! A great as the owls are, the forest setting is something out of a story book.
The cluster of leaves in the UL act as a sort of vignette, keeping the eye from wandering out of the frame up there.

Fun shot with a even funner story. I like the comp you chose here and the owlet looking down is great. Techs look good as dose the nesting tree. I am shooting fledgling owls at about the same stage exept they are on the ground. Nice work.

I'll steal a line of yours for this wonderfully composed, natural history image, and surely one of the best barred owlparent/chick frames I've ever seen..."This is a contest entry all day long" (!)...imo of course, but man I totally dig the originality of the image.

How special is that! Excellent composition and a very nice forest feel to the image. If anything I'd try to slightly lighten the chick's face...but man this rocks!!

Thanks to everyone for all the comments and critiques. David, I appreciate your words and LOL when I read them. Daniel, I had already lightened the face, but lightened it a little more and also dodged the feet and the top of the head a little. Bill, after looking my image again, I sensed a slight green cast which I have adjusted. This has reduced the greens in the BG a little, but also in the birds and tree. The differences between the OP and RP are subtle but improve the image.
Thank you all again!
