Took this during their week long winter migration thru my area. Wish they stayed longer. Caught this male puffed up right before a rouse. Sorry about the perch but it is the norm in my area, steel posts, wood posts and barbed wire fences.

David,
Just a tad tight for me, so bit of room all around would be nice.
I don't mind the post, but I can see why you may want something a bit more natural.

Mind blowing details. Wonderful image, David. They were very flighty while in NM, so I never got a chance.

I also don't mind the perch much. excellent colors, details, head turn, BG...what a bird. Well done. It can be a bit smaller in the frame but, yes, that would include more of the perch...so not sure.

I like the fluffed feathers. The perch doesn't bother me. The detail is amazing.

A great shot David, I love the puffed up feathers and the excellent detail. BG is also great, and I feel your pain re the perch. These birds breed in my area, and they seem to prefer wire and posts even if there a suitable branches near by...
Lovely image!
Cheers!

Hi David,
I like the comp and the light and the perch is fine. I think the rust on it makes it look more "natural" and everyone likes a weathered, textured look. You could always burn the whiter brighter parts of the perch to make it look more weathered.
I like the colors and the head turn.
No one else has mentioned this so maybe it is just me, but I would sharpen the eye area a bit.
