Taken while visiting Dot-Dash Island onboard the Hooptie Deux with the fabulous Captain James. I believe the lower ibis is a Balchinian. If you don't know, please don't ask.
We were discussing how to correctly pronounce the plural form of ibis. Both ibis and ibises are correct.

Since it is a sky BG, if you have the IQ, I would crop tighter.
Lovely image, Amy. The light was just right. I like the different poses with the beaks clear and the varied BG. Composition works well for me as is.
The bottom ibis does appear to be on its way to becoming a "balchinian." BTW, not sure if I told you that I learned during a bird presentation last week that only the female ibises develop the "balchinian" during breeding season. I was disappointed that it wasn't the males! :)
OMG, Marina. I thought that balchinian was a funny word that the Captain coined, especially after hearing his funny "R" rated explanation. Now I know it is a real word. My mind might have been in the gutter. Heee heee

Balchinian, that's a new one ...and I cant find an accurate definition ?
I like this shot though, nice separation between birds and liking the soft colored blue sky, exposure on the whites looks well handled and sharp detail including seeing the eyes on both birds clearly. I keep thinking this looks like a Japanese painting

I say Ibi. That's my plural. And about the balchinian, I'm still laughing. Great timing getting the too in focus and in the right dof. Light was great as was the evening. Lets shoot again soon.
